New Mexico lemon law: when a new car is a lemon
What N.M. Stat. §§ 57-16A-1 to 57-16A-9 (Motor Vehicle Quality Assurance Act) asks before a manufacturer must repurchase or replace a car, the steps on the way and the last day to act.

The New Mexico lemon law in detailNew Mexico’s lemon law is known as the Motor Vehicle Quality Assurance Act, sections 57-16A-1 to 57-16A-9 of the New Mexico Statutes. On November 1 and 2, 2026, we could not open an official text that sets out its protection period, its repair-attempt and days-out-of-service tests, its notice step or its deadline: the state’s compilation refuses automated readers, and the bills we could read deal with another section. This page therefore gives no New Mexico figure, and it will not repeat one from a law firm or a blog. What applies everywhere applies here: the written warranty is enforceable under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, and a manufacturer dispute program that follows 16 CFR Part 703 must decide within 40 days of receiving a claim. If you have the current text of the act in hand, compare your car with it directly.

What New Mexico owners can do now
Until the act can be read at its source, the practical steps are the same as in any state: keep every repair order, count the visits for the same defect and the days at the shop, and write to the manufacturer at the address in the warranty booklet. The letter builder on this site works for New Mexico; its citation of the act is general.
The official compilation is published at nmonesource.com, under chapter 57, article 16A. We could not open it, so this page links to no version of it. When it can be read, the figures will appear here with the date of reading.
